Imperator of the Imperium Asraniae
Term Limit:
- Lifetime Appointment (until death, abdication, or deposition by force).
Overview:
"In the Sight of One, We Rule All."
— Motto of the Ancient Asrian Kings.
The title of Imperator embodies the supreme authority of the Imperium Asraniae. In the wake of the catastrophic fall of Triumvir Cailean the Undying at the gates of Orikos, the old Triumviral system collapsed into dust. From that chaos rose Asran The Light-Bearer, the singular master of the Western Triumvirate, consolidating all civil, military, and religious authority into one person — a living symbol of the Asrian destiny.
His reign redefined the West. Yet it was his heir, Aurelian, who reshaped the legacy further, retiring the archaic title of Autokrator and adopting the mantle of Imperator — one who commands by divine and worldly right alike.
Today, the Imperator stands as the apex of the Asrian order: sovereign of the Senate and the People, supreme commander of the Legions, and guardian of the Aeternum Solis.
This is the ruler position for the realm.
Holders:
-
Dictator
-
Dictator
Term: Indefinite, until cessation of existential threat
Appointment: Appointed by Consuls with assent of the Imperator
Accountability: Only to the Imperator during emergency; Senate review after threat subsides
Number Permitted: Two (mirroring the dual Consulship tradition)
Description:
The Dictator is the highest emergency magistracy of the Imperium Asraniae, invoked only in times of existential peril to the state—whether foreign invasion, internal cataclysm, divine wrath, or civil war. Upon the formal declaration of a “State of Imperiled Continuance” by the Senate or Imperator, Consuls may ascend to the title of Dictator with immediate effect. Once appointed, a Dictator wields supreme military and civil authority, superseding all magistrates save the Imperator.
Though bound by duty to preserve the Imperium, the Dictator is not restrained by peacetime protocols. Senate oversight is suspended until the threat has passed, and all civic and martial institutions fall under their unified command.
Two Dictators may serve concurrently, reflecting the dual Consulship, but rivalry or contradiction between them is punished as treason by decree of the Imperator.
Duties:
- Supreme Military Command: Commands all Imperial legions, fleets, and garrisons with absolute authority. Can override Legates, Governors, and even Consular commands.
- Emergency Legislation: May issue binding decrees ("Edicts of Preservation") with the force of law, bypassing Senate deliberation.
- Martial Reorganization: May reorganize military structures, conscript citizens, and assign legions new banners, standards, or provinces of operation.
- Internal Stabilization: Authorized to suppress rebellion, dissolve local councils, and declare martial law in any province without prior authorization.
- Tribunal Authority: May establish wartime tribunals for trials of treason, desertion, sedition, or sabotage, with power to execute verdicts summarily.
- Termination of Office: May be dismissed, replaced, or executed solely at the discretion of the Imperator before the threat ends. Upon conclusion of the crisis, must submit to full Senatorial inquiry.
Checks and Balances:
- Subordinate to the Imperator: Though wielding unmatched powers during crisis, the Dictator remains subordinate to the Imperator’s will. The Imperator may revoke the title, appoint successors, or command the Dictator’s resignation or execution.
- Senate Review Post-Crisis: After the “State of Imperiled Continuance” is lifted, the Senate regains jurisdiction to investigate the Dictator’s actions. This may result in commendation, exile, or criminal tribunal.
- No Continuation Without Cause: The office cannot persist beyond the duration of the existential threat. Attempts
Holders:
Type of Position: Executive

Imperial Bishop
-
Imperial Bishop
"Shepherd of the Faithful, Servant of the Throne"
Term: Lifetime (removal only by Imperator or Imperial Cardinal)
Description:
An Imperial Bishop is the spiritual leader of a Diocese within the Imperium Asraniae, appointed directly by the Imperator upon clerical application and vetting. While Bishops operate primarily within the religious domain, their authority often overlaps with local governance, customs, and even politics—making them key figures in both church and state.
They uphold the doctrine of the Solisian Church, oversee clergy, and guide the faithful, while maintaining obedience to both the ecclesial hierarchy and the Imperial Crown. All Bishops are represented at court and in spiritual councils by the Imperial Cardinal, who serves as their voice to the Imperator and the Senate.
Duties:
- Govern a Diocese, supervising its temples, priests, holy orders, and public rites.
- Enforce doctrinal purity and ensure local clergy adhere to the teachings of Aeternum Solis.
- Preside over ecclesiastical courts for spiritual disputes, heresies, or clergy misconduct.
- Serve as moral advisors to local governors, nobles, and magistrates.
- Uphold and promote Imperial unity through the faith, discouraging separatism or local heresy.
- Submit reports and petitions to the Imperial Cardinal, who represents their collective interests before the Imperator.
Checks & Balances:
- Imperial Appointment: Bishops cannot ascend by local election—they must apply and be appointed by the Imperator or recommended by the Imperial Cardinal , ensuring loyalty to the Throne.
- Accountability to the Cardinal: Bishops are spiritually and administratively answerable to the Imperial Cardinal, who may reprimand or remove them in cases of failure, heresy, or treason.
- No Secular Command: Bishops do not control armies or civic law. They must work alongside, not above, local civil magistrates and governors.
- Public Scrutiny: As visible religious figures, Bishops are judged by both the faithful and the Senate—missteps may lead to censure, excommunication, or exile.
RP Dynamics:
- Spiritual Politician: Bishops walk a delicate line between priest and power-broker—representing divine law while navigating imperial politics.
- Influence through Faith: While they cannot legislate or command armies, their sway over the hearts of the people (and the nobility) is immense.
- Ecclesial Alliances: Bishops often form networks of favor and loyalty within the church—supporting one another in doctrinal disputes or political ambitions.
- Theocratic Ambitions: Some Bishops remain humble shepherds. Others may scheme for Cardinalship, influence over Consuls, or leadership in holy councils.

Cives Asrani
-
In terms of roleplay, Cives Asrani are full citizens of the Imperium, enjoying all associated rights and benefits. However, they also shoulder the full range of responsibilities that come with citizenship in the Imperium.
Cives Asrani
“Born under the Light, Bound by the Mandate.”
A Cives Asrani is a free individual recognized under Imperial Law as a full member of the Imperium Asraniae, entitled to the rights, duties, and participation in both the governance and defense of the realm. Citizenship transcends race, origin, and creed, being founded on loyalty to the Imperium, adherence to its laws, and commitment to its eternal ideals.
Criteria for Cives Asrani:
- Birthright: Granted automatically to any child born to Cives within the lawful bounds of the Imperium.
- Service: Earned through distinguished military, civic, or ecclesiastical service to the state.
- Imperial Decree: Bestowed directly by the Imperator or the Senate in recognition of exemplary merit or dedication.
- Adoption by Province: A Provincial Assembly may petition for the enfranchisement of a foreigner who has demonstrated prolonged and significant integration into the community.
Rights of the Cives Asrani:
- Participation in Elections: All Cives have the right to vote in provincial and senatorial elections.
- Legal Protections: Each Cives is guaranteed protection against imprisonment, exile, or execution without a fair trial before an established Tribunal or Magistrate.
- Freedom of Worship: Every Cives may practice a faith of their choice, provided it is not deemed heretical or treasonous by Imperial law.
- Petition and Protest: Cives have the right to appeal to their Senators, Provincial Prefects, or directly to the Throne for redress of grievances.
- Inheritance and Property: Cives are permitted to own, inherit, and bequeath property, with these rights safeguarded by the Imperium.
The Asrian Ideal:
To be among the Cives Asrani is to be more than a mere subject of the Crown—it is to be an active participant in the Mandate of Aeternum Solis. Each Cives is seen as a guardian of civilization and a supporter of Pax Aeterna, expected to conduct themselves with dignity, prudence, and valor, thus securing a prosperous future beneath the eternal rays of Aeternum Solis.

Senator
"The Pillar of the Imperium"
Term: Life (until removal, slumber, or death)
Description:
Senators are key members of the Senate who play a major role in shaping the future of the Imperium. While they don't have the power to propose laws on their own, they can vote on all important matters, elect the Consuls and other magistrates, and debate the major decisions that affect the Empire. Senators have power by working together in groups, making alliances, and using their votes to push through their agendas.
Duties:
- Vote on laws, military actions, and important decisions.
- Elect the Consuls, Censors, and other high officials.
- Debate major laws, military plans, and reforms.
Checks & Balances: Senatorial Bloc Challenge
If enough Senators (at least one-third of them) disagree with something happening in the Senate, they can challenge it. This means they can pause or block decisions being made by Consuls, Censors, or others, forcing the Senate to reconsider those decisions.
- If a Senatorial Bloc (one-third of Senators) calls for a challenge, the Senate must hold a vote to decide if the decision should stand or be stopped.
- If most Senators (two-thirds) agree with the challenge, the decision is blocked and must be re-discussed.
This gives Senators a way to keep higher officials in check and ensure that major decisions aren't rushed through without proper review.
RP Dynamics:
- Power in Numbers: Senators need to form alliances with others to be influential. A single Senator has little power without backing.
- Political Maneuvering: Senators can use tricks, promises, and deals to gain influence and make their voices heard.
- Factions and Challenges: Senators who can organize a group for a Senatorial Bloc Challenge can stop or delay important decisions, gaining power in the Senate.

Realm Description
The Emperors of the Aeternus Dynasty
- Asran the Light-Bearer (39-30-6 to 42-32-2)
- Aurelian Aeternus Avalon (42-32-2 to 45-35-1)
The Dissolution of the Republic of the Grand Fate and the Rise of Caorran
The Kingdom of Caorran emerged during the final years of the Republic of the Grand Fate. It was founded by the Caorrani hero, Eoghan Bardach, who was proclaimed the first King following the Republic’s dissolution. Recognizing the importance of regional unity, King Eoghan I aligned Caorran with the Western Confederation and was subsequently appointed Arch-Chancellor of the Confederated Imperium of the Western States.
During his reign, the Kingdom expanded considerably, encompassing 86 estates at its peak. This period of prosperity also saw the rise of eight noble Houses—ducal, marquessal, and comital—who administered the realm alongside the monarch.
The Arrival of the Asrians and the Conversion to Aeternum Solis
The arrival of the Asrians, led by Asran the Light-Bearer, marked a major shift in the western regions. Their settlement in the western wastelands contributed to the collapse of existing powers there and the rise of Asraniae. Empress Sharona Arbuckle formally integrated the Asrians into the Western Confederation as a new Member-State.
Around this time, the region suffered a widespread outbreak of the slumberblight. King Eoghan I and many nobles of Caorran fell into slumber, prompting Duke Cailean Cousland of Gallaran to ascend the throne. Observing the zeal and rapid development of the Asrians, as well as their military campaigns—such as the crusade against Falconreach—King Cailean adopted the Solisian Church as the state religion. Working closely with Duke Avalon Hope, he spearheaded the conversion of the Caorrani people.
The slumbering of Duke Altus Kruger and the leadership vacuum in Katanwald allowed the Asrians to expand further into the eastern territories. With Caorran and Asraniae—two of the largest Subrealms—now united in faith, the construction of Cathedrals in Fairshore and the Lowlands increased the Church’s influence. Seeking cultural cohesion and political stability, Empress Sharona declared the Solisian Church the official religion of the Confederation.
The Triumvirate Reformation and the Triumvir Wars
The Electorates of Valentia, Caorran, and Asraniae established a new imperial structure governed by a Triumvirate. The Triumvirs selected were Cailean the Undying, Asran the Light-Bearer, and former Empress Sharona Arbuckle. Despite tensions between Sharona and Asran, Cailean acted as a mediator.
On 38-42-6, Sharona’s forces occupied the ecclesiastical settlement of Naxos. The action prompted Solar Ecclesiarch Helia I to excommunicate Sharona and call for a crusade. The city was retaken with the aid of the Bright Custodians, beginning the Triumvir Wars.
Triumvir Asran condemned Sharona and called for her arrest. After she fled south, he revoked her position as Triumvir. Under orders from Cailean, combined forces from Asraniae and Caorran captured Erforderlich and annexed much of Valentia.
Sharona, seeking support, allied with Maid Marion and Otto the Great. This escalated into a broader conflict between the Western realms and the Lowlands. Fairshore and Ascalon joined the Western coalition, leading to the eventual collapse of the Lowlander Confederation.
With the war concluded, Cailean convened an Inter-Realm Congress to negotiate new borders and establish peace. Delegates gathered at Riverhall on 39-35-2 to begin the process.
The Death of Cailean and the Rise of Asran
On 39-30-4, Cailean was killed near Orikos in a surprise attack by Talornidr forces under Bahana d’Jelailos, known as Kingsdoom. His death came shortly before the Riverhall Congress, which was attended instead by his successor.
Following Cailean’s death, Asran declared himself Apotheon, a title in Asrian tradition denoting one who has ascended to divine status. Rejecting the authority of the Senate to elect new Triumvirs, Asran proclaimed himself sole ruler of the West, assuming the title Autokrator.
The Empire of Asraniae
In the year 40, within the Saint Cyprianus Basilica, Asran the Light-Bearer was crowned Autokrator of the West and declared himself the Apotheon of the World. His legions pledged allegiance as he announced his divine mandate to unify the known world under the symbol of the Sun.
Despite his vision, Asran’s efforts to consolidate power were met with resistance. A series of failed military campaigns against neighboring states weakened his position. His final war against the Kingdom of Ascalon, which coordinated its declaration of war with a Rathgari invasion led by the Ardaling Tribes, proved decisive. The conflict ended with the death of Asran and his wife, and the cession of several border provinces to the Duchy of Falconreach.
The Reforms of Imperator Aurelian
Following Asran’s death, his son Aurelian Aeternus Avalon succeeded him as Imperator. Aurelian initiated a series of reforms aimed at stabilizing the realm and fostering greater inclusivity within the Imperium.
Among his key reforms were:
- Freedom of Worship: Laws were enacted to permit religious pluralism within the Imperium.
- Senate Reform: The powers of the Senate were expanded, introducing elements of representative governance and strengthening legislative rights.
- Provincial Restructuring: The former realms were reorganized into Imperial Provinces, each granted voting rights within the Senate.
- Asrian Identity Expansion: A broader, more inclusive definition of Asrian identity was codified, aimed at integrating diverse populations into a unified civic framework.
These reforms are ongoing and represent a significant departure from the autocratic policies of Aurelian’s predecessor. The long-term impact of these changes remains to be seen, as the Imperium continues to redefine its role within the geopolitical landscape of the West.
