Realm Description

The Principality of Alauna

The Principality of Alauna is a fledgling state in the west of the Imperium Asraniae, ruled by Princeps Osric Laurent. As a part of resettlement efforts in both the Wastes of the West and Valentia after the Triumvir Wars, an edict was passed within the Empire promising parcels of land to Asrian and Caorrani soldiers; these men and their families would go on to be the first Alaunans. As a result, the national culture of the Alaunans is a blend between that of the Caorrani and Asrians. Living in the scrublands of the Wastes and the sparsely inhabited coasts of Valentia, the Alaunans also possess a unique frontier spirit and provide renowned riders to the legions of Asraniae.

Following Osric's slumbering and that of his named heir, and the encroachment by the Hus people on the Principality, his son Bryce, a Count from Caorran, laid claim to the lands that encompassed Alauna, claiming his birthright, which led to the start of a cold war between Caorran and Hussaria. On 42-15-5, Count Bryce did march upon Naigoesho to forcefully claim his inheritance, supported by his mother and grandfather, King Aodhàn the Unbound. Unfortunately, the following skirmishes resulted in the death of King Aodhàn and Bryce's mother, after being ambushed by thousands of Hussarian barbarians.

On 44-8-3, Bryce finally relinquished his claims and abdicated the nominal title of Princeps.

Restoration of the Title by Imperator Aurelian

In the wake of the Caorrani Civil War in 45-18-1, which erupted between the Loyalists of Eoghan II and the rebel faction led by Marquess Tristan von Rivacheg, Imperator Aurelian feared a total collapse of the Caorrani crown. Seeing a dangerous power vacuum forming on the southern frontier— and unwilling to risk Fairshore expansion or prolonged instability along his border—he sought a unifying symbol and stabilizing force. He turned to Bryce Bardach-Quelius, former Princeps of Alauna, whose bloodline and wartime renown rendered him a natural pretender to the Caorrani throne.

In 45-26-2, Aurelian issued the Edict of Gallaran, officially restoring the Title of Princeps of Alauna as a nominal-imperial dignity. The title, stripped of sovereign authority, was henceforth styled:

Princeps Alauniae et Praefectus Caorranensis (Prince of Alauna and Prefect of Caorran)
