Realm Description

"There is but one thread that binds all realms together. A singular deity, a solitary Saviour, a lone deliverer. Aeternum Solis is the harbinger of salvation for all of creation. Without his guiding light, we are naught but mere fodder in the jaws of Inanis." - Cardinal Cardinal Celestina

Status Ecclesiasticus Solis Aeterni (Ecclesial States)

Short Name: The Ecclesial States
Formal Name (English): Ecclesial States of the Eternal Sun
Formal Name (Asrian): Status Ecclesiasticus Solis Aeterni

History and Origins

The Status Ecclesiasticus Solis Aeterni, or the Ecclesial States, has its roots in the days of the prophet Saint Dundarak and his early followers, who initially served as advisors to various leaders. At its inception, it was not a sovereign entity but rather a religious body providing guidance and wisdom. The idea of an Ecclesiastical state, however, had always been discussed, with aspirations for autonomy dating back to Year 11 AC.

Early attempts at establishing the Ecclesiastical state considered various locations, including Baile Helibore and Portus Meridianus. The Unrelenting Citadel, the first stronghold of the Asrian Crusaders, was also considered a potential capital. However, these plans were abandoned following the dissolution of The Neo Eternal Empire.

The Rise of the Ecclesial States

30 years later, with the Expansion of the Kingdom of Asraniae into the Dove Bay Peninsula and the Conversion of the Kingdom of Caorran to the faith of Aeternum Solis, the vision for an Ecclesiastical state was reignited. The location of the state became a subject of intense debate. Eventually, it was decided that the Dove Bay Peninsula would serve as the heart of the new Ecclesial States, with Sunspire chosen as the capital.

In this period of growth, the College of Cardinals selected Cardinal Helia I as the first Solar Ecclesiarch. Raised within the church and childhood friends with Asran The Light-Bearer, a prominent figure in the Western Confederation, Helia I’s election marked a new era for the Ecclesial States.

Break with the Western Confederation

The Ecclesial States officially broke away from the Western Confederation following the illegal occupation of Naxos by Empress Sharona Arbuckle. In retaliation, Solar Ecclesiarch Helia I excommunicated Sharona, causing the majority of the now Solisian-led Western Confederation to revolt and overthrow her. This rebellion led to the Ecclesial States declaring their independence, which was supported by the remaining TriumvirsAsran and Cailean—both of whom had significant political and military influence in the region.

The Ecclesial States thus encompassed the entirety of the Dove Bay Peninsula, affirming its position as a sovereign entity.

Later Deals and Protection

In subsequent years, the Ecclesial States and the Western Autocracy under Autokrator Asran Aeternus Hirodanus entered into a strategic agreement. The Ecclesial States agreed to cede most of their holdings in the Dove Bay Peninsula in exchange for protection from the rising power of the Western Autocracy. This deal ensured the survival of the Ecclesial States while securing the protection of one of the most powerful leaders in the region.

Through these events, the Ecclesial States cemented their place in the annals of history, balancing spiritual and political power while ensuring their independence and survival through strategic alliances.

List of Solar Ecclesiarchs:

  1. Saint Dundarak (Year 4 AC to Year 6 AC)
  2. Sede Vacante (Year 6 AC to Year 36 AC)
  3. Helia I (Year 36 AC to Present)
